I used my new Panasonic ZS200 to make these images of New Orleans. It’s the first time I’d taken it beyond Chicago and it was a blast to use during a short 3 day trip we made to NOLA at the end of April.
This was our first time in the Crescent City and I had high hopes to see a lot. But I was knocked on my ass for a whole day, due to a nasty and pernicious stomach bug. So we didn’t have very much time to explore the beautiful and elegant city on the Mississippi Delta, but once I got back on my feet (on our last night) the magic of New Orleans washed over me like a sweet summer breeze.
As we walked around the French Quarter at dusk, we heard a distant trumpet player improvising to the chord changes of All of Me and I suddenly understood what an incredibly special place New Orleans is.
“there was something about
that city, though
it didn’t let me feel guilty
that I had no feeling for the
things so many others
needed.it let me alone.”
