Since I had a couple of leftover fireworks from Independence Day, I thought I’d try to make a few photographs of the fiery little spinners with a Canon 5DsR and a Zeiss 100mm lens.

When I imported these two images into Lightroom and worked with them for a while, I started thinking about the Big Bang. Not the TV show but the theory of how the universe began. So I did a little research and stumbled on this fine illustration of the theory. Even though it looks like a metal drinking glass on its side, it’s a good illustration of a complex idea. And I like that it looks a little like the Zeiss Milvus lens, too.

What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.  -T. S. Eliot
