both images: Willis Tower & 311 S. Wacker – Chicago 2016
Formerly called the Sears Tower, Willis Tower is a 108 story building that tops out at 1451 feet / 442 meters. Because it held the title of world’s tallest building from 1973 to 1998, it usually gets all the press, but I like the Bart Simpson building (311 S. Wacker) just as much.
Completed in 1990, 311 S. Wacker in downtown Chicago, is a 65-story skyscraper that’s 961 feet tall / 293 meters. It glows brightly at night because at the top of the building there is a 105-foot tall translucent cylinder, surrounded by four other smaller cylinders. It’s one of the more visible Chicago buildings at night because those five cylinders on top are lit with 1,852 fluorescent tubes.
