Equal night

It’s the 1 st day of spring  – the vernal equinox. It seems that every year I have to look this up but apparently, the term vernal equinox, is derived from Latin meaning equal night. In other words,  on this day and on the autumnal equinox,  the Sun shines directly on the equator and the length of night and day are nearly equal.

To me though, the 1st day of Spring just means that the snow is mostly gone and the warmer weather is on the way. But more importantly, it means that it’s almost time to get the garden in!
